This time we try to make handmade place cards for the Easter table: they will be made with a modeling dough that is really easy to make, we will give it an egg shape and we will decorate them with dried flowers.
Making a table unique is not so difficult, just a little attention, an unexpected thought for those who will sit down, and everything becomes more special.
With placeholders you can always play a lot and create new ones depending on the occasion: small bunches of flowers, a sprig of lavender for a delicate table, a sprig of rosemary for a country table, a handwritten phrase to convey an emotion…
We use the same modeling dough to prepare Easter decorations, the same pasta eggs can be placeholders but can also be tied to a tree or used to create a centerpiece.
The dough is then completely edible so it is also absolutely suitable for creating chores with children.
A difference of the salt dough, what we are going to make is a much whiter and smoother dough.
For the flowers we can use all types of dried flowers, even if not completely flat, indeed it is nice to make them three-dimensional with the flower that comes out of the dough. Lavender also looks great on us and gives a fragrant note.
But now we come to everything we need to make the Easter place cards with dried flowers.
Materials:
For the dough
- 150 g water
- 100 g cornstarch
- 200 g sodium bicarbonate
Per la decorazione:
- egg shaper
- toothpick
- dried flowers
- vini glue
- (optional) letters stamps
Method
Put the water, corn starch and baking soda in a saucepan and put it on a flame over medium heat. Mix everything until, after a few minutes, the mixture starts to detach from the pot forming a dough.
Turn off the heat and let the dough cool so that you can work it with your hands afterwards.
Once cooled a little, take the mixture and knead it well with your hands until it is smooth and homogeneous. Make a loaf, cover it with plastic wrap and let rest 30 min.
Pick up the dough, roll it out with a rolling pin half a centimeter high. Press the egg-shaped mold onto the rolled out dough and make the eggs.
With a toothpick make a hole at the top that will allow us with a ribbon to tie it to the napkin.
Now put the vinyl glue near where we want to glue the flowers and move on to the composition we want to create with the floral material we have available.
If we have letter stamps we can stamp the name or phrase on the eggs.
Once finished, place the modeling dough eggs on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and allow to dry for 48 h. After 24 h turn the eggs upside down letting dry the back as well.
After this time they will be completely hardened and we could use them in the table set!
